Ten Days without a post

That's terrible. But I guess I just haven't had anything to really talk about. So instead, i'll tell you about the new thing I've got going on...

"Vol Ranik and the Scourge from Beyond the Stars" is the title of a new webcomic writer Chris Jones and I will be launching soon. So stay tuned for that. We've set up a facebook page for it, so if you do that, check it out! It's some high-octane outerspace action, so if that's up your alley, you should give us a try. I've posted some art in the gallery section to give you a little taste of what you'll be getting.

I'm also still working on "One Last Song", written by CJ Hurtt, (hopefully pencilling a new page later today), and my children's story with author Mike Lawrence "Welcome, Welcome!" is about six pages of painting away from being finished. Finally, I've been slowly colouring pages from "Fisk: S.U.B.S.T.I.T.U.T.E. Hero" with hopes that we can get that out this year, while waiting for writer Dino Caruso to come back with the final dialogue to start lettering.

I'm a month and a half away from finishing School, and of course I have at least another half-a-dozen things on the back-burner or in various stages of completion, so there should be lots of fun stuff going up in the Gallery over the course of the year.

Alright, I'll try not to be so long between posts from here on.

What's going on with you?

My brother is a winner.

This link should take you to the music video my brother just wrote, co-directed and edited for the Lincoln Rising Stars Competition:
The Future Is Where We Belong
Check it out, and check out his other work on Filmaka.com. His name is Karl Richter and I think he's gonna be doing big things. What do you think?

How was your Valentine's Day?

Haha. Funny story, a few years ago, I tried to convince then fiance (now wife) lena that Valentine's Day was nothing but a big cash-grab cooked up by Hallmark and that we should boycott the whole thing. She was a bit put-off by my rant, i could tell, but otherwise really didn't have much comment on it, so I figured we were on the same wavelength, and didn't plan or do anything. Which ended up in bitter disappointment for all concerned - apparently she thought I was just airing my ridiculous ideas to her, as I sometimes do (and who knows, maybe she thought it was a cover for the most amazing Valentine's Day ever - hey he's PRETENDING that he doesn't want to celebrate Valentine's Day and will really be taking me out for a super romantic getaway) and I was caught unawares when she mentioned that , you know, maybe it would have been nice to ACTUALLY go out and do something on Valentine's. Well, we eventually got over it and ended up married in the end after all. Besides, I blame Warren Ellis, since I got the "horny werewolf/hallmark conspiracy" idea from his then prominent message board, "the engine", a place I spent a great deal of time. I eventually agreed (actually probably quicker than that, even) that V- Day is definitely worth celebrating, and so we have carried on the tradition to this day.

Well, except this year.

This year, we went for a nice dinner with my mother-in-law (who is as wonderful and sweet as you'll find) and while it wasn't romantic, it was one of the most pleasant dinners at Pizza Hut as you're going to get. Yes, Pizza Hut. No, it wasn't that bad.

Then last night, our friends invited us over for supper at their place, and I think by now the opportunity for a "proper" Valentine's Day has passed. But you know what? It didn't matter. Maybe it was because we had just gotten back from a very romantic honeymoon in Mexico or maybe it was because I wasn't going out of my way to prove that we didn't need some "made-up" holiday (aren't they all made-up, really?) to show our love, but for whatever the reason, it passed with little or no fanfare. Which is fine too. Maybe next year, I'll book the swankiest restaurant in town and shower her with roses and candy. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

So, today was Family Day in Ontario and we enjoyed a lazy day (well, some cleaning and tidying and organizing in there too) and tomorrow it's back to the grind. As for the rest of tonight, I'm going to see if I can get to the drawing board in the next few hours left before bed and maybe get something scanned and posted up here.

Anyway, happy belated Valentine's Day and all that. See you soon.

Just a quick note.

I've added a fan page to my facebook. So if you're a fan - go sign up. Also, I've been ramping up to hit the message boards, so if you see me around, feel free to say hi! Also, I'm about to start a double page spread (inking) while listening to Around Comics podcast... We'll see how long THAT takes! I'll post it here when it's done.

Married off

So there you have it. I'm married. It's pretty cool, just knowing that a milestone in my life has been reached and I'm able to say that someone picked me to spend the rest of her life with, yet at the same time, there is the security of the knowledge that married or not, we would have been together anyway - I mean, over ten years together means we've worked out most of the kinks by now anyway. However, the ceremony was beautiful, kind of a Naturalistic, or spiritual type of thing, rather than a religious one, which suited the bride and me better than a church type thing would have. And the two weeks in Mexico didn't hurt much either.

Well, except my deadlines.

Since they are all self-imposed, I managed to talk the boss into letting me take a short vacation, and a wonderful time was had by all. Or at least I assume so, and if not, I'm not that concerned - I had a great time, and that's the main thing, right?

That all said, we're going to try to get this train moving again, so here is the first of the new posts. I'll try to get some art up later tonight too.

Ok, talk to you later. Blue skies...
